A new wearable device for promoting healthy sleeping
(IRB#: IRB_00165943)
The sleep wellness device we are testing produces electromagnetic frequencies that may help relax the brain. It is a wearable band that rests on the back of the neck. This study is testing whether this new device promotes sleep quality for those looking to improve their sleep. We will begin with a baseline week (wearing a fitbit sleep monitor and answering questionniares and a text-message based sleep diary). After baseline, participants will be randomized to wear the device or a placebo for 28 days. In the last week, participants will wear the fitbit again for 7 days and answer questionnaires again to look at how sleep has changed over the 28 day period wearing the sleep wellness device. Only half of the people in this study will have their devices turned on in the active mode. The other half will not have the device on but not in the active mode. This decision will be made randomly and people in the study will not know if their device is on or off. Between 28 days and 3 months, all devices will be activated. Participants can wear the device as much as they would like. We will conduct one more questionniare assessment at 3 months.
